Chinese in America

A photo-documentary project chronicling the life of Chinese-Americans. This project illustrates diverse lives of Chinese-Americans across all of society’s economic and social spectrums. Bibiana states about “Chinese in America: “This exhibit reflects my perspective a Chinese-American woman. I started working on this in 1996 as a cultural and artistic undertaking, without politics. It is not intended to be in any way nationalistic or ethnocentric, or a simplistic “Chinese pride” presentation.  On the contrary, this documentary represents a glimpse into the diverse lives of Chinese-Americans and intends to build bridges for greater cross-cultural understanding, intercultural unity, and harmony. It is my vision to photograph the presence and vitality of Chinese people in America. I choose my subjects across all of our economic, social and geographic spectrums and wish to bring greater understanding of the lives, contribution and struggles of Chinese-Americans. I hope the viewers will see themselves in the photos, even if they are not Chinese.”
